The board book Cocodrilo invites the youngest readers — from approximately 0 to 3 years old — into a lyrical exploration of colour, rhythm and image. Created by poet-educator Antonio Rubio and acclaimed illustrator Óscar Villán (winner of Spain’s National Illustration Award in 1999) the book belongs to the “De la cuna a la luna” collection, designed specifically for pre-readers.
With its chunky 16 × 16 cm size, durable board pages and rounded corners, Cocodrilo is as tactile as it is visual. The text is minimal yet rhythmic — a kind of “poegrama” (poetic pictogram) intended to “educate the eye and sweeten the ear” of the little reader.
On each spread the green crocodile appears, climbs a trunk, a baúl, a castle… all the while surrounded by vibrant blocks of colour and simple shapes, creating a gentle and engaging accumulation of visuals and sound.
Ideal for bedtime reading, first words and colour recognition, this stylish early-learning book merges aesthetics and pedagogy in equal measure. Whether shared by parent and child, read aloud with cadence, or independently flipped through by a curious toddler, Cocodrilo offers multiple layers of engagement. Use it to foster early vocabulary (colours, animals, objects), rhyme and rhythm awareness, and the pleasure of books from the very beginning.
A timeless addition to any young child’s library, this edition from Kalandraka Editora S.L., published in 2005, is both durable and elegant.
