Los tres mundos is the third instalment of Santiago Posteguillo’s ambitious “Serie Julio César”, a large-scale historical saga dedicated to the life of Julius Caesar. Published by Ediciones B in 2025, this epic novel continues the story begun in Roma soy yo and Maldita Roma, following Caesar at the moment when his destiny and the fate of the ancient Mediterranean are decided.
The novel is set around 58 BC, when three great spheres of power coexist: the Roman Republic, the tribes of Gaul and the kingdom of Egypt. What appear to be separate realities slowly move toward a shared, unavoidable collision. In Rome, Caesar faces a ruthless political struggle, where alliances, betrayals and Senate intrigues threaten his position and his life. On the northern frontier, he leads the Roman legions into the difficult and bloody campaign in Gaul, a territory seen by many as impossible to subdue. In parallel, in Egypt, King Ptolemy XII lives in exile with his young daughter Cleopatra, who is already learning how power, survival and diplomacy are intertwined.
Posteguillo combines solid historical research with a very cinematic rhythm, detailed battle scenes and sharply drawn characters. Readers witness not only the great military decisions, but also the doubts, ambitions and sacrifices behind Caesar’s rise. The novel explores themes such as the cost of glory, loyalty to Rome, personal morality in war, and the long-term consequences of political choices.
With its more than 900 pages in hardcover, Los tres mundos is aimed at readers who enjoy long, immersive historical novels about Rome, military campaigns and complex political plots. It can be read as a continuation of the series or as an impressive independent portrait of Julius Caesar in one of the most decisive chapters of his life.
