Age of Red Ants (Вік червоних мурах) by Tetyana Pyankova is a deeply psychological novel set during one of Ukraine’s darkest chapters: the Holodomor of 1932–1933. Through hauntingly vivid prose, the book chronicles the harrowing experiences of villagers in Mачухи—like young Yavdokha whose family succumbs to the famine, and Solomiia, the commissar's wife who oscillates between fasting and frenzied grief over her lost child. Svyryd, a representative of the local authority, is torn between ideological duty and a tumultuous heart.
