Agua is a poetic and visually striking picture book by Anna Aparicio, published by Babulinka Libros in 2025. Set in a small town hidden in the heart of a valley, the story begins with neighbours who barely look at one another. Everyone is busy with their own worries, and community simply does not exist.
Everything changes when an extraordinary event linked to water disrupts their quiet routine. Streets and houses are suddenly affected, and the town can no longer survive on individual efforts. To “stay afloat”, the neighbours must learn to listen, talk, support one another and make decisions together.
Through this simple yet powerful storyline, Agua introduces children to key values such as cooperation, solidarity and shared responsibility. The book belongs to Babulinka’s emotional education line, which focuses on helping families and schools work with feelings and social skills in a natural way.
The illustrations, created by Anna Aparicio herself, carry much of the narrative weight. Expressive characters, watery textures and dynamic compositions invite young readers to observe details, anticipate what might happen next and talk about how each character feels. The square hardback format (23 × 23 cm, 36 pages) is comfortable for reading aloud at home or in the classroom, encouraging shared reading moments and group discussion.
Agua is ideal for families, kindergartens and primary schools looking for stories that spark conversation about helping others, solving common problems and caring for the environment. It works well for circle time, emotional literacy projects or simply as a beautiful bedtime story that shows how, when we join forces, even the biggest wave becomes easier to face together.
