Garden of Gethsemane (Сад Гетсиманський) is one of the first works in world literature to expose the criminal essence of Stalinism through the lens of a personal and collective tragedy. In this 2023 Ukrainian edition (552 pages, softcover, 145×200 mm), Ivan Bahrianyi chronicles the stages of terror experienced by his protagonist Andrii Chumak and countless Ukrainians during the 1930s. Only those with extraordinary will and dignity could survive and resist the system of violence and lawlessness.
Bahrianyi, a survivor of repression himself, channeled his own pain and exile into creating literature that resonates with moral force. This edition, published by Apriori, aims to preserve both the emotional intensity and the historical testimony inherent in the narrative.
