Mission "Rescue": Bears

"Mission 'Rescue': Bears" is a compelling children's book by Ukrainian author Yevheniya Zavaliy, published by Vydavnytstvo Staroho L'va in 2021. This 60-page hardcover edition, illustrated by Maria Shevchenko, is written in Ukrainian and is suitable for young readers aged 6 to 8. The story follows a young bear named Khrystya, who is captured from the wild and forced to perform in a traveling circus. Subjected to cruel treatment, Khrystya's resilience is tested until animal rights activists intervene, rescuing her and other animals from their captors. Placed in a sanctuary, Khrystya meets other bears freed from captivity, each with their own heartbreaking tales. While many cannot return to the wild, Khrystya's journey leads her back to the Carpathian Mountains, where her mother and brother await. This narrative not only entertains but also educates young readers about the importance of animal welfare and the significance of preserving wildlife habitats. The book's engaging storyline and vibrant illustrations make it an excellent addition to any child's library, fostering empathy and environmental consciousness.
