Pomakh kryl metelyka

"Pomakh kryl metelyka" is a poignant Ukrainian manga by Mar'iana Sachyk, depicting the true story of artist and activist Bohdan Ziza. Born and raised in Crimea, a region annexed by Russia in 2014, Ziza's act of protest against the occupation led to his unjust imprisonment. In May 2022, following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison on fabricated charges of "terrorism" and "politically motivated vandalism. " At the time, he was 27 years old. The catalyst for his arrest was a peaceful demonstration where he painted the Ukrainian flag colors on the building of the occupying administration in Yevpatoria. This act of defiance was captured on video but never published before his arrest. "Pomakh kryl metelyka" narrates the experiences of Ukrainians under occupation, highlighting their subtle yet powerful resistance against oppression. This 40-page manga, published in 2026, is presented in Japanese, offering readers a unique cultural perspective. With its compelling narrative and vivid illustrations, it serves as a testament to the resilience and courage of those who stand against tyranny.
