What the book is about
The story is set in the future, after the Great War. East of Ukraine lies the Sector, an exclusion zone still roamed by autonomous combat robots. Disarming them is too expensive, so the territory has been fenced off, and its perimeter is patrolled by mixed crews: a human and a humanoid robot.
During one patrol, Rey and Eliza crash and end up deep inside the Sector, surrounded by deadly machines. Then a critical failure hits the robot's system: the AI now believes it is human — and that its partner is the robot. There are supplies for only one person, but both believe they are human, and each is ready to sacrifice the other to get home. Because at home, Mia is waiting. A daughter.
