Ukrainian-language edition. State of War: Anthology (Ukrainian title, transliterated: Voiennyi stan: antolohiia) is a collection of fifty texts by Ukrainian writers, written in the first months after the full-scale invasion began in 2022. It was compiled by Yevheniia Lopata and Andriy Lyubka and published by Meridian Czernowitz in 2023, with a foreword by General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, then Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Among the contributors are Serhiy Zhadan, Oksana Zabuzhko, Yuriy Andrukhovych, Andriy Lyubka, Taras Prokhasko, Oleksandr Mykhed, Artem Chekh and Iryna Tsilyk. Each text records what the author lived through and felt in those first weeks, so the book reads less like a chronicle than like a set of personal testimonies.
It is a book for readers who want to understand how Ukrainian authors processed the start of the war, and for Ukrainians abroad who want to revisit those days in their own language. Because every piece is separate, you can read it in small portions. Some texts are heavy, so it is better to choose a quiet moment.
